As many as 11 police officers have been transferred in Punjab in a major reshuffle exercise. Amritsar Rural SSP Sohail Qasim Mir has been transferred as AIG Personnel-I Punjab at Chandigarh, hours after SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia was booked for alleged vandalism at the Majitha police station on Monday.
The development is being seen as significant since the FIR against Majithia triggered strong reactions from SAD leaders.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for misusing the police force for political motives. As per the latest order issued by the Home Affairs Department, besides Mir, senior IPS officer Anita Punj has been transferred and posted as Special DGP, Human Resource Development and Welfare.
The Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, Dhanpreet Kaur, has been appointed as Director of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy (MRS PPA), Phillaur.
DIG Ludhiana Range Satinder Singh has been posted as the new Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar. Pradeep Kumar Yadav will continue as IGP Technical Services, Punjab, while being relieved of additional charges.
Vivek Sheel, currently Commandant 75 Battalion PAP, Jalandhar, has been assigned as DIG Border Range, Amritsar.
Additionally, three officers promoted to the rank of DIG have been given new assignments. Surinderjit Singh Mand has been posted as DIG Prisons, Punjab; Kanwaldeep Singh as DIG Law and Order, Punjab; and Sandeep Kumar Sharma as DIG, PAP-II, Jalandhar.
DIG AGTF-II, Ludhiana, Sandeep Goel, holding additional charge of DIG Border Range, Amritsar, will now take over as DIG Ludhiana Range.
Meanwhile, SSP Faridkot, Pragya Jain, has been posted as AIG Law and Order, Punjab, at Chandigarh.
The reshuffle comes after the conclusion of the civic body polls in Punjab and ahead of the Assembly elections, which are just a few months away.
