The Punjab Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the grenade attack on the Islamabad police station in Amritsar on December 17. The incident occurred in the early hours, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav announced that Gurjeet Singh from Dande in Amritsar and Baljit Singh from Chhapa in Tarn Taran were apprehended. The two suspects were linked to a narco-terror module operated by foreign handlers.
During the arrests, the police recovered 1.4kg of heroin, a hand grenade, and two pistols. "Further investigations are underway to uncover the entire network," the DGP said in a statement.
The attack caused an explosion-like noise around 3:15 am on December 17, leading to panic in the area. Following the incident, the Punjab Police declared it an “attack” and vowed strict action against those responsible.
DGP Gaurav Yadav visited Amritsar the same day to review the law and order situation. He met with police officers, directing them to ensure professional policing and take strong measures against such incidents.
The grenade attack on the Amritsar police station is one of several such incidents reported recently in Punjab. Two days later, a similar attack occurred in Gurdaspur district.
On December 30, Punjab Police and Uttar Pradesh Police conducted a joint operation in Pilibhit, where three suspected Khalistani terrorists allegedly involved in the Gurdaspur attack were killed in an encounter.
The Punjab Police continue to crack down on narco-terror networks and are working to ensure the safety and security of the state.
