Punjab Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has strongly condemned the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur, stating that no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
Gill expressed concern over the growing influence of harmful content online and said she would be writing to top constitutional authorities, urging them to take action against online platforms that, in her view, are contributing to a deteriorating social environment.
The Women Commission Chairperson said, "No one is allowed to take the law into their hands... It is work of the police department to take actions according to the law... I am writing to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the Chief Minister and the Governor to appeal to ban those online sites which are spoiling the atmosphere in society."
Earlier on Tuesday, Giani Malkit Singh, the Head Granthi of Akal Takht Sahib, sparked controversy by justifying the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari. He stated there was “nothing wrong” with what happened and suggested that such actions were justified against individuals who allegedly defame the Sikh religion.
Speaking to mediapersons, Giani Malkit Singh said, "Such a treatment should be meted out to people who defame the Sikh religion; nothing wrong has happened."
Kanchan Kumari’s body was found inside a car near Adesh Hospital in Bathinda, several days after she was reported missing. Bathinda Superintendent of Police Narinder Singh said, the police were alerted on June 12 after a foul smell was noticed coming from a car parked on the hospital premises.
