Former Bihar Chief Minister and prominent leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Rabri Devi, took a significant step in the state's political arena by filing her nomination for the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) elections on Monday.
The move signals a strategic push by the Mahagathbandhan alliance, of which RJD is a key member, to consolidate its position in Bihar's political landscape. Accompanied by four other candidates representing the Mahagathbandhan, Rabri Devi submitted her nomination papers, solidifying the alliance's stance ahead of the upcoming polls.
Among the other candidates from RJD are Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Dr. Urmila Thakur, and Syed Faisal Ali, along with Shashi Yadav from the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).
The filing of the nomination saw a show of strength from the RJD, with Rabri Devi sharing the spotlight with her husband and RJD supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav, flashing victory signs amidst enthusiastic supporters.
The presence of prominent leaders like Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav further underscored the party's commitment to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
Expressing confidence in the Mahagathbandhan's prospects, former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav emphasized the diversity within the candidate pool, highlighting the inclusion of three women among the five candidates filed by the alliance.
The political landscape in Bihar witnessed further intensification as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its candidates for the MLC elections, unveiling a list that included prominent leaders such as Mangal Pandey, Dr. Lal Mohan Gupta, and Anamika Singh. The announcement added fuel to the already charged electoral atmosphere in the state.
With a total of 11 seats up for contention in Bihar, the forthcoming MLC elections are poised to shape the state's political trajectory significantly. Notably, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with other prominent leaders from the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], have already thrown their hats into the ring by filing their nominations earlier.
The nomination process witnessed the active participation of state-level leaders from the BJP and JD(U), underlining the significance of the upcoming polls in Bihar's political spectrum.
As the deadline for filing nominations drew to a close on March 11, Monday, the stage is now set for a keenly contested battle in the Bihar MLC elections scheduled for March 21. The political landscape remains charged, with parties gearing up for an intense electoral showdown in the state.
