Rafting on the Ganga river in the Muni Ki Reti area near Rishikesh will start again from this Saturday. Rafting is usually banned during the monsoon season.
Jaspal Singh Chauhan, Tehri District Tourism and Adventure Tourism Development Officer, said after a joint inspection by the district administration, Forest Department, and Tourism Department, permission had been granted to resume rafting on the Ganga from September 27.
Chauhan added that the inspection was carried out on September 24 along the river stretch from Marine Drive beyond Tapovan to Khara Sot. He also noted that two tourists had died during last year’s rafting season, and this year, the focus will be on providing a safe, accident-free experience.
He emphasised that life jackets were the most important safety gear for rafting. Their quality will be regularly checked to ensure that, in case of an accident, tourists’ lives are protected.
