Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and ex-Odisha Governor Raghubar Das was given a grand welcome at Ranchi airport on Thursday upon his arrival to the State Capital after resigning as Odisha Governor.
Das' supporters welcomed the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand with traditional drums and a shower of flowers. Das, who was also excited to see the huge crowd of supporters, accepted the greetings wholeheartedly.
Speaking to media persons he thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for giving him an opportunity to serve the people of Odisha. He also thanked the PM and Home Minister for once again giving him a chance to come back to his workplace.
Sources said that Das will once again join the BJP on Friday, December 27. He is also likely to visit Delhi soon after joining the party and take further instructions from the party's high command.
Party insiders said that Raghubar's joining the BJP in Ranchi itself is an attempt to give a signal to the workers that he will remain in Jharkhand politics. The new state president is to be elected in the State in February.
Sources said that Das may be given the State BJP president’s post, while the incumbent State president Babulal Marandi can be chosen as the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the Legislature Party.
After being rejected by tribal voters in the recently held Assembly elections, the BJP is again engaged in social engineering. Raghubar is considered the biggest OBC leader of the State.
Party leaders said that after Das joins the BJP, the party will get new strength as it is also trying to woo the Dalit vote bank.
