In an effort to dismantle terror infrastructure in the Kashmir Valley, coordinated raids are underway across multiple districts on Thursday, officials said. The raids are being carried out in South Kashmir’s Shopian district, where security agencies are targeting individuals linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI).
Officials said that the operations were being conducted simultaneously across South, Central, and North Kashmir.
Security forces are also conducting a search operation at a Jamaat-run institute in north Kashmir’s Handwara, with subsequent raids being carried out across Central Kashmir’s Budgam district and in Anantnag district in the south.
These anti-terror raids have intensified in Jammu and Kashmir after the Red Fort explosion in New Delhi on November 10, killing 15 people and leaving 20 injured.
Meanwhile, a subsequent blast at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar killed 10 people after a forensic team reportedly made a mistake during the inspection of recovered explosives brought in from Faridabad, Haryana, during a “white-collar” terror module bust.
Since then, Jammu and Kashmir Police have tightened the noose around several individuals believed to be linked to JEI and associated groups in an effort to unearth a larger terror network operating in the Valley.
Senior officials of the J&K Police are being kept fully in the loop throughout the ongoing anti-terror raids in the Valley, which aim to strengthen surveillance, enforce regulations, and impose a ban on anti-national elements under the UAPA.
