Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced that the Railways will introduce a daily parcel train service from Kashmir to New Delhi, carrying agricultural and horticultural products. The service will kick off on September 13.
In his post on X, the minister wrote two parcel trains carrying apples from Budgam to Delhi had run today. The new service will provide much-needed relief to fruit growers of the Kashmir Valley. The service will now be introduced daily from Saturday.
The minister wrote “With the Jammu–Srinagar line operational, the Kashmir Valley has better connectivity. Railways is introducing a daily, timetabled parcel train from Budgam in Kashmir Valley to Adarsh Nagar station in Delhi starting September 13.”
He also confirmed that the loading of parcel trains, carrying mainly horticulture products such as apples, began at the railway station in Budgam.
Reacting to the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Railway Minister, stating the service will bring huge relief to apple growers.
“The daily parcel train from Budgam to New Delhi will bring huge relief to apple growers. My deepest gratitude to PM Narendra Modi Ji and Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw,” he posted on X.
