Heavy rain lashed several parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and causing a dip in temperatures across the region.
According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh recorded 119.5 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am on Sunday.
Heavy rainfall was reported in several areas in Punjab including Ferozepur, Mohali, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, and Rupnagar.
Neighbouring Haryana also witnessed showers, with Ambala recording 91 mm of rain. Other areas like Rohtak, Gurugram, Kaithal, Nuh, and Panchkula also received rain. The showers brought a noticeable drop in temperatures across the state.
The Met department has forecast light to moderate showers across most parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on June 30 and July 1, with chances of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated areas.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in northern and eastern Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh.
Districts such as Yamunanagar, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Patiala, and Sangrur, along with nearby areas, are likely to see intense rainfall between June 29 and July 1, the forecast added.
