Tehri Garhwal District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Brijesh Bhatt said on Thursday that National Highway-707A (Kempty-Yamunapul) has been completely washed away beyond Dimta Bend due to heavy rain.
Bhatt said the stretch between Dimta Bend and Jeevan Ashram has been closed after the highway was damaged. Vehicles are being diverted through Mussoorie Bend towards Vikasnagar as a result.
Meanwhile, National Highway-07 has been blocked near Devprayag on the Rishikesh-Kirtinagar route because of debris. Eight Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) roads and seven Public Works Department (PWD) roads have also been closed after debris accumulated on them.
The road disruptions come as heavy rain continues across the hilly areas of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region. The rainfall has affected normal life, while authorities remain on alert.
Several major rivers in the region are running at higher levels following the persistent rain. Officials have directed local authorities to make regular public announcements and keep residents informed about the situation.
People have been asked to stay away from riverbanks and avoid risky activities, including taking selfies near rivers. Water levels have also increased in Dehradun’s Tamsa, Tons and Asan rivers. The Rispana River is also carrying water following heavy rain in the hills.
Officials said some areas have received more than 200 mm of rain in a day. The continued downpour has also increased the risk of damage to roads and other infrastructure. People and pilgrims have been asked to follow official directions if their movement is stopped because of bad weather or road damage.
Char Dham pilgrims have been advised to follow all safety instructions and remain at designated safe locations whenever their movement is restricted.
The administration has also arranged facilities to accommodate pilgrims if travel has to be temporarily stopped due to heavy rain, damaged roads or other infrastructure problems.
