Weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir have improved considerably after temperatures rose sharply in recent days, with light to moderate rainfall lashing widespread parts of the Union Territory on Thursday.
The ongoing showers have brought down daytime temperatures below 24 degrees Celsius, and the Meteorological Department has predicted further intermittent rain over the next 24 hours.
Kashmir plains had witnessed a significant spike in temperatures due to hot and dry weather in the past week. However, the relatively cooler conditions have attracted a large number of tourists escaping the intense heatwave sweeping most parts of the country.
Thousands of visitors have arrived in Kashmir in recent days, and with the pleasant weather expected to continue, tourist inflow is likely to increase further in the coming days.
These are positive signs for Kashmir’s tourism sector, which has been witnessing a steady recovery after last year’s horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people.
Interestingly, Pahalgam has emerged as one of the most favoured destinations for both domestic and local visitors, with temperatures there remaining below 20 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological office in Srinagar has forecast cloudy weather conditions across the region, with chances of isolated rainfall accompanied by thundershowers in the plains.
