The Meteorological Department of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday forecast rain, snowfall and gusty winds across the Union Territory starting March 28. 

 

According to the forecast, dry weather is expected to continue until March 28, though a change in weather pattern is likely from the same evening with light rain and snowfall at some places. 

 

The department said there is a possibility of light rain, snow, thunder and gusty winds at many places during the night of March 28.

 

From March 29 to 31, light rain and snowfall are likely over higher reaches. 

 

Possibility of moderate snowfall at some higher reaches along with thunder and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) has also been forecast at many places between the night of March 28 and March 31.

Jammu and Kashmir received widespread rain in the plains and moderate to heavy snowfall in higher and remote areas over the past week, which also drenched several low-lying areas in Srinagar, affecting normal life ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. 

 

Farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural operations on March 26 and from March 29 to 31. Travellers have been asked to plan their journeys accordingly. 

 

The region witnessed its driest and warmest February in recent recorded history, but intermittent wet spells throughout the first three weeks of March have ended the prolonged dry spell.
