Rain, snow likely across J&K from Dec 20

December 22 is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or snowfall at scattered places. From December 23 to 29, the weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy. On December 30 and 31, there is a possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches.

Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive rain and snowfall from December 20, as cold and dry weather conditions continue to worry the local population.

 

According to the MeT office in Srinagar, “cold and dry weather conditions are likely to persist for the next 48 hours, before the weather pattern experiences a change from December 20 onwards.”

 

December 22 is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain or snowfall at scattered places. From December 23 to 29, the weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy. On December 30 and 31, there is a possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches.

 

Several other weather stations recorded a slight dip in minimum temperatures compared to the previous day. On Wednesday night, the minimum temperature in Zojila dropped again to minus 17 degrees Celsius.


Night temperatures remained below the freezing point in Srinagar, as the minimum temperature settled at minus 0.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, temperatures across north, south, and central Kashmir districts witnessed a sharp dip on Wednesday night.


Katra in the Jammu region remained the warmest place with12 degrees Celsius, while south Kashmir’s Pulwama was the coldest place with minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.

 

Daytime temperatures have stayed relatively above normal across Jammu and Kashmir, while nighttime temperatures have remained below freezing point across most weather stations in the Valley.

 

Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, recorded minus 0.8 degrees Celsius. Several other weather stations across north Kashmir, including Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara, also witnessed a slight dip in minimum temperatures.

 

In the Jammu division, the weather remained relatively moderate, with Jammu city recording 11.0 degrees Celsius, while Banihal, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, and Batote experienced a slight dip in nighttime temperatures over the past three weeks.
