Jammu and Kashmir is set to experience continued rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches over the next 36 hours, officials said on Thursday. The erratic weather has persisted across the region for the past one week and is expected to continue until March 25.

According to the Meteorological office in Srinagar, two more western disturbances are likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days. The ongoing wet spell will bring intermittent rain and snowfall throughout the region.

In the past week, almost all weather stations in the Kashmir Valley recorded moderate to heavy rain, while higher and remote areas saw light to moderate snowfall. This has effectively ended a months-long dry spell that had raised concerns among the farming community.

The Union Territory experienced one of the hottest February on record, but March has brought significant relief from the unusually warm conditions. Skies will remain largely overcast, with daytime temperatures today likely to be 5–11°C below normal.

The Jammu region is expected to see rain and thundershowers tomorrow, with hailstorms possible at isolated places.  Weather conditions are forecast to improve by Saturday, with mostly dry but cloudy skies. Continuous rainfall in the plains has waterlogged low-lying areas of Srinagar, disrupting normal life.

Nevertheless, shoppers braved the rain to continue preparations for Eid-ul-Fitr, with noticeable activity in the heart of Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area.
