Steady rainfall over the past two days has brought significant relief from the scorching heat in Punjab and Haryana, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures across both states, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Several areas recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours leading up to 8:30 am on Wednesday. In Punjab, showers were reported from Ludhiana, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. Haryana's Ambala, Hisar, Narnaul, Gurugram, Sirsa and Nuh also received rainfall. Chandigarh experienced light rain during the same period.
The downpour caused a notable dip in maximum temperatures, with Chandigarh recording just 31°C — over five degrees below the seasonal average. Across both Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperatures ranged between 31°C and 34°C, a considerable fall from last week’s highs of over 40°C in several places.
Minimum temperatures also saw a decline, adding to the overall cooling effect across the region.
