The Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, said the weather will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

Temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir, which saw an unprecedented rise in the past week, witnessed a sudden drop as rains lashed widespread parts of the Kashmir Valley on Saturday, officials said. The ongoing wet spell has not only brought down the maximum temperatures but also brought much-needed respite from the heatwave.

Daytime temperatures in Jammu had gone up to 45 degrees Celsius over the past week. Similar hot and humid conditions prevailed in the Kashmir plains except for a few tourist destinations.

The maximum temperatures in the summer capital also came down significantly. Daytime temperatures are now hovering around 17 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, said the weather will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershowers at most places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

A spell of light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at many places on June 14, while from June 17 there is a possibility of a brief spell of rain or thundershower at many places.

Meanwhile, the Met has warned of inclement weather conditions likely to continue, with the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms over widespread parts of south and north Kashmir.

The inclement weather conditions, according to the weather monitoring department, are expected to continue throughout the day.
