Several parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh received heavy rain on Monday, bringing relief from the heat.
In Chandigarh, the city recorded 70.5 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, according to the local weather department. A dramatic incident occurred near the Sector 47–48 traffic signal, where a section of the road caved in.
A motorcyclist had a narrow escape as his bike plunged into the pit — but luckily, he managed to jump off just in time. Fire and Emergency Services arrived promptly, pulled the bike out, and the area was barricaded for repairs.
"We received a call at 4.35 am on Monday informing that a small portion of a road caved in. As the bike fell inside, the motorcyclist jumped off it and saved himself. His bike was pulled out later," an official of the Fire and Emergency Services said.
In Haryana, rain was reported in Yamunanagar, Hisar, Ambala, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Panchkula, and Karnal. A farmer from Yamunanagar shared that his fields were completely submerged due to the downpour.
In Punjab, showers were recorded in Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, Bathinda, Mohali, Gurdaspur, and Ferozepur. The rainfall led to a noticeable dip in temperatures, keeping them below seasonal norms.
More rain is expected across parts of both states through Tuesday, according to the forecast.
