Following the paper leak, the police sub-inspector recruitment exam-2021 was cancelled by the High Court of Rajasthan on Thursday, August 28. Justice Sameer Jain, in a detailed judgment, cancelled the exam 2021, which was the bone of contention (a subject or issue over which there is continous disagreement) for both the BJP and the Congress governments in the state.
"Illegality and fraud on the system were so conspicuous. It is strange that the state government did not take any action/decision on the subject. The court's decision hopefully will act as a deterrent for the gangs playing with the future of youths," said senior advocate Major R P Singh who represented petitioners in the court.
The RPSC had in 2021 advertised 859 posts for sub-inspector and platoon commander. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led government took a stand not to cancel the exam despite it being a political issue during the assembly election 2023.
A state cabinet sub-committee, in its report to the high court, had recommended not to cancel the exam in 2021.
The bench also referred the matter to the division bench on the conduct of Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) members for allegedly being involved in the scam.
Allegations of a paper leak surfaced during the recruitment exam, leading the government to hand over the investigation to the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police.
In the paper leak case, more than fifty (50) trainee sub-inspectors have been arrested, apart from others.
