Indian Navy leading seaman Sitendra Singh, who perished in a fire aboard INS Brahmaputra in Mumbai, was honored with an emotional farewell in his Rajasthan village on Thursday.
Singh, who went missing after the fire broke out on India’s frontline ship at Mumbai’s naval dockyard, was found deceased on Wednesday.
In a poignant tribute, a ‘Tiranga yatra’ (Tricolour march) was organised in his village, Danger, in Jhunjhunu district. The procession began at the Surajgarh-Chidawa bypass, where Singh’s body was brought from Mumbai.
A decorated military truck carried his mortal remains, escorted by hundreds of locals who joined the march in their vehicles.
As the procession moved through the village, participants raised slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and showered flowers on the truck, paying their respects.
The scene was one of deep reverence and communal solidarity.
The Indian Navy expressed its sorrow over Singh’s death.
An official statement from the Navy read: “Adm Dinesh K Tripathi #CNS & all personnel of #IndianNavy mourn the loss of life & pay tribute to Sitendra Singh, Ag LS (UW) who lost his life in the unfortunate incident onboard INS Brahmaputra at Mumbai and extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”
