Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated 125 infrastructure projects constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Ladakh at a total cost of over Rs 5,400 crore.

Ladakh has been undergoing massive transformative changes, particularly through infrastructure projects connecting the region with Srinagar on one side and the rest of the country on the other.

During the inaugural ceremony of BRO projects in Leh, the Defence Minister said, “These projects are a testament to the Indian government’s unwavering commitment towards securing the national borders and a tribute to the brave soldiers of the army and BRO who work tirelessly for the country.”

The Defence Minister added, “I am pleased to dedicate these projects and a war memorial to the nation today. The bravery of the soldiers is an inspiration to the nation.”

“These projects are a tribute to our heroes. The brave soldiers of our army and BRO personnel work tirelessly for the country. Our brave soldiers in the armed forces and all employees of BRO like you are continuously working for the country,” he said.

He said, “Such a large number of projects being inaugurated at once has never happened before. Today marks another historic moment for the nation.”

“Earlier, in May this year, we had dedicated 50 projects to the nation. Even then, I had felt great joy. Today, with this historic milestone, you have multiplied my joy manifold,” he said.

The infrastructure projects inaugurated today have been built at a cost of more than Rs 5,000 crore, representing the highest-value inauguration in BRO’s history so far.

Singh said, “Not only Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram, but other states too are benefiting from the projects being dedicated to the nation.”

“Over the past few years, the efficiency with which the BRO is developing infrastructure has provided a significant boost to national development,” he added.

The Minister concluded by saying, “Self-reliance in defence infrastructure must remain our guiding principle.”
