District authorities in Rajouri have issued a flood advisory for vulnerable areas, urging precautionary evacuation after flash floods wreaked havoc on Sunday.

According to the fresh advisory, the identified vulnerable areas include the CEO office vicinity and Naban Mohalla, situated along the riverbank, besides other areas prone to floods.

The administration has asked residents to shift to safer places in the wake of continued rainfall predicted until Thursday.

The advisory states that people, including the elderly, children, pregnant women and persons with disabilities, should move to safer places along with essential belongings without waiting for water levels to swell.

People in different localities have been asked to remain vigilant and on guard to evacuate on short notice and to cooperate with the police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Civil Defence, the Revenue Department and other emergency response agencies.

It also urges residents not to venture near rivers, fast-moving streams, bridges and flood channels to witness rising water levels.

Meanwhile, the search for seven missing persons continues on the third day since flash floods and landslides swept away several people, killing 14, with 8 still missing and dozens injured.

The District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) is functioning round the clock. The emergency helpline number is 01962-295895.
