Once again showing its preference for retired officials, and despite facing public criticism over such appointments, the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has extended the tenure of Ram Subhag Singh (Retd IAS), former Chief Secretary, as Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister for another two years.
A notification in this regard was issued earlier in the day.
Ram Subhag Singh was appointed Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister after his retirement on July 31, 2023.
The decision is likely to raise eyebrows and trigger political debate, as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had earlier criticised Ram Subhag Singh's elevation as Chief Secretary during the tenure of former BJP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. However, Sukhu appointed him as his Principal Advisor immediately after his retirement.
Ram Subhag Singh was removed as Chief Secretary during the Jai Ram Thakur government, allegedly under pressure from the Prime Minister's Office, as he was perceived not to have a clean image.
