Ranchi Police have begun a probe into a case where an unidentified caller allegedly posed as Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and harassed Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. Officials said an FIR was lodged at Gonda police station in Ranchi city late on Saturday following a written complaint from Soren’s personal secretary, Jai Prasad.
According to the complaint, the same mobile number used to contact Shivakumar had also been used to trouble former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
The Chief Minister’s Office in Ranchi termed the act a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the State’s leader and to target a VIP through deceitful means.
Investigators said the complainant submitted a pen drive containing the call recording, in which the accused can be heard speaking in a “rude and suspicious tone” while pretending to be the Jharkhand Chief Minister.
Acting on the complaint, the Ranchi Police’s Cyber Cell and Technical Cell have begun tracing the caller. Officers said they are analysing call details, SIM information and location data to identify the person behind the impersonation.
A senior officer said that immediate action was taken as soon as the matter surfaced. “A detailed briefing will be given once the investigation progresses,” he added.
Officials confirmed that the Chief Minister’s Office has directed police to identify the culprit at the earliest and initiate strict legal action.
