With more than 10,000 candidates scheduled to take the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on June 21, the Ranchi district administration has put in place an unprecedented security apparatus to ensure the test is conducted without any disruption, malpractice or security breach.
The re-examination, ordered following allegations of a paper leak in the original NEET-UG test held in May, will be conducted at 21 centres across Ranchi from 2 pm to 5:15 pm. Determined to prevent any repeat of the controversy, authorities have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards cheating and irregularities.
Officials said a multi-tier security framework has been activated across all examination centres. Candidates will undergo rigorous screening, including verification of identity documents, admit cards and biometric authentication before being allowed entry. Magistrates, senior police officers and security personnel have been deployed at every venue to maintain strict vigilance.
To further strengthen security, prohibitory orders under Section 163 will be enforced around examination centres. Gathering of crowds, unnecessary movement and suspicious activities within a 200-metre radius of the venues will be prohibited throughout the examination period.
Sources said the question papers were flown into Ranchi under high security and have been stored in secured strong rooms under constant surveillance. The papers will be opened only at the designated time in the presence of authorized officials.
The administration has also mandated CCTV coverage at every examination centre, enabling real-time monitoring of examination halls and surrounding areas. Flying squads, special inspection teams and mobile police patrols will remain on alert throughout the day to respond swiftly to any reports of malpractice.
Authorities are also closely monitoring social media platforms to detect and counter rumours, misinformation or any attempts to circulate leaked content. Candidates have been warned against carrying mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices or any electronic gadgets into examination centres.
Officials said the extensive security arrangements are aimed at ensuring a transparent, credible and incident-free examination process while restoring public confidence in one of the country's most competitive entrance tests.
