Ranchi University is set to expand its role beyond academics with the establishment of a Health and Wellness Centre at its Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) campus in Morabadi. The initiative aims to promote the holistic physical and mental well-being of students, faculty members, and staff.
Notably, the centre has been developed entirely through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, with no direct financial burden on the university.
University officials said the move comes at a time when stress, anxiety, and academic pressure are increasingly affecting young people. To address these challenges, the university has signed Memorandums of Understanding with Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences and Central Institute of Psychiatry. Under these arrangements, psychiatrists from the Central Institute of Psychiatry will be available at the centre four days a week, while specialists from the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences will provide services twice a week.
The centre will offer both curative and preventive healthcare services. Alongside medical consultation, it will focus on promoting healthy lifestyles through regular yoga, meditation, and fitness programmes. Professional counselling services will also be available to help individuals deal with stress, anxiety, and depression.
In addition, Ranchi University plans to introduce certificate courses through the centre, enabling students to gain training and explore career opportunities in the health and wellness sector. Awareness programmes on nutrition, hygiene, gender sensitivity, and substance de-addiction are also expected to be conducted.
The facility will further organise periodic health camps, blood donation drives, vaccination programmes, workshops, and seminars. Officials said digital tools will be used to manage and monitor services efficiently, ensuring wider accessibility.
The university administration believes the initiative marks a significant step toward integrating education with health awareness and could serve as a model for other institutions aiming to support the overall well-being of their academic communities.
