Rape convict Prajwal Revanna pleads for lesser punishment

The prosecution lawyers had argued for life imprisonment for Prajwal Revanna during the hearing, prior to sentencing.

Ex-MP Prajwal Revanna, who is a rape convict, cries in court, begs for mercy.

Found guilty in a rape case and to be sentenced on Saturday, suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader and ex-MP Prajwal Revanna pleaded for lighter punishment, saying he never did anything wrong and his sole lapse was his 'fast' political rise. A Special Court here is to deliver the quantum of sentence after finding the 34-year-old Prajwal guilty in one of the four sexual abuse and rape cases filed against him on Friday.

Prajwal wept in court on Saturday as he begged the judge for leniency in punishment.

He informed the court that he is a BE Mechanical graduate, and has passed on merit all the while.

"…they are accusing me of raping several women, but all the women haven't come willingly to complain, they came six days ahead of election (Lok Sabha polls last year)… the prosecution side brought them intentionally and made them file a complaint," Prajwal informed the court.

Observing that the woman (victim) never complained to anyone including her husband or relatives regarding the rape, he stated that she approaches and complains after some videos were posted.

Saying that will go down on their knees before the court's conviction, Prajwal said, "I have a family, I haven't seen my mother and father for six months now. Please sentence me less is what I appeal to the court." "The only blunder I committed in my life is developing at a fast pace in politics," Prajwal, who was detained in May last year upon his return from Germany, said.

The MP/MLA special court Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat on Friday convicted the 34-year-old Prajwal in one of the four cases of sexual abuse and rape filed against him. The court is expected to deliver the quantum of sentence on Saturday.

The prosecution lawyers had argued for life imprisonment for Prajwal Revanna during the hearing, prior to sentencing.

The case is related to a 48-year-old woman who was employed as a help at the family's Gannikada farmhouse in Hassan district's Holenarasipura. She was allegedly raped twice — at Hassan farm house and Bengaluru residence — in 2021 and the act recorded by the accused on his mobile phone.
