Kaziranga National Park has recorded a rare wildlife sighting after an albino hog deer was seen roaming through the grasslands of the national park. The unusual appearance of the pale-coloured animal has drawn widespread attention after visuals of the sighting were shared on social media by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Posting the video on X, the Assam Chief Minister described the moment as an extraordinary glimpse into the rich wildlife of the state. “Not every day does one witness something this rare,” Sarma wrote while sharing the clip that showed the light-coloured deer moving gracefully through the lush green landscape of Kaziranga.

The Chief Minister said the sighting reflects Assam’s exceptional biodiversity and underlines the government’s continued commitment to wildlife conservation.

“The sighting of an albino hog deer in Kaziranga stands as a symbol of the richness of our wildlife. It highlights our resolve to conserve and ensure that even the rarest species continue to thrive in the forests of Assam,” he added.

Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is globally known for its rich biodiversity and conservation success. The park is home to several iconic species, including the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, tigers, swamp deer, and hundreds of bird species.

Wildlife experts note that albinism in animals is extremely uncommon and occurs due to a rare genetic condition that results in little or no production of melanin, the pigment responsible for normal skin, fur, and eye colour.

The sighting of the albino hog deer has added another remarkable entry to Kaziranga’s ecological record and has once again highlighted the importance of preserving India’s fragile wildlife habitats.
