Kharar-based realtor Ranjit Singh Gill of Gillco Valley has resigned from the primary membership of the Shiromani Akali Dal. The Kharar area incharge of the SAD and a confidant of party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Gill was reportedly upset with the recent appointment of SAD office-bearers.
He had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022. In the last elections, he had lost to AAP’s Anmol Gagan Mann by a huge margin. In December 2022, the Income Tax Department had raided the office of Gill in Gillco Valley and his residence as well. It is learnt that he is likely to soon join a national party, which could be the BJP.
Gill said the SAD was ignoring the contribution of his workers. “Outsiders’ influence increased considerably in Kharar. The workers were also upset with the appointment of new office-bearers. It is the will of the people of Kharar, and I am only abiding by it,” he said.
Gill said he had the same regard for Badals, but he cannot ignore the will of the people of Kharar. He said he is yet to decide whether to join a political party or contest as an Independent.
