Tirumala witnessed an unprecedented surge in devotees during the summer holiday season, with a record number of pilgrims visiting the shrine in May for Darshan of Lord Sri Venkateswara.
According to official figures, 25,46,168 devotees visited the temple in May alone, nearly two lakh more than those recorded during the same period last year. In comparison, 23,79,252 devotees had visited the temple in May 2025, while the figure stood at 23,23,493 during the corresponding month the previous year. The highest single-day turnout was recorded on May 24, when 98,058 devotees had Darshan.
The rise in footfall was accompanied by a significant increase in offerings. The temple’s Hundi collections for the month reached Rs 120.28 crore, with the highest single-day contribution of Rs 5.06 crore recorded on May 3.
Situated on Venkatadri, the seventh peak of the Seshachalam Hills, the Tirumala temple is among the most prominent pilgrimage centres in India and is widely regarded as the richest Hindu temple in the world, owing to its substantial annual donations and gold offerings. Located about 22 km from Tirupati, the shrine attracts devotees from across the country, who worship Lord Venkateswara as the visible deity of the Kali Yuga, believed to have descended to alleviate human suffering.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which administers the temple, has also reported record-breaking donations in recent months. Between November 2024 and October 2025, the trust received Rs 918.6 crore in direct contributions, marking an all-time high. Notably, digital donations surpassed physical contributions for the first time, accounting for Rs 579.38 crore of the total.
Individual contributions by prominent donors have further boosted the temple’s wealth. Businessman Sanjiv Goenka, Chairman of the RPSG Group, donated a 5.267 kg gold ornament garland valued at approximately Rs 3.63 crore, while industrialist Balbir Singh Uppal contributed gold puja items worth Rs 1.5 crore.
Earlier, in the calendar year 2023, the temple received a record 1,031 kg of pure gold in offerings, valued at around Rs 773 crore, underscoring its enduring appeal and spiritual significance among devotees.
