Red alert in Uttarakhand as Ganga river swells

Due to the continuous rainfall in Uttarakhand, the water level of the Ganga river in Rishikesh has risen and is now just below the warning mark of 1.38 cm. In response, the SDRF and local police have urged people to stay in safe areas and remain alert.

 

Rescue teams are on standby, and the administration is actively patrolling sensitive zones like Muni Ki Reti and Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh. Officials are keeping a close watch on the situation and have advised the public to stay cautious as a precautionary measure.

 

Head constable of the Water Police, Harish, said, "Teams have been deployed in sensitive areas and people have been alerted. We are also making announcements at the Triveni Ghat."

 

An orange alert has been placed for Pauri Garhwal, Champawat, Nainital and Rudraprayag districts.

 

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Dehradun has issued a red alert for Tuesday, warning of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds in the districts of Dehradun, Uttarkashi, and Tehri Garhwal.

 

An orange alert has been issued for Pauri Garhwal, Champawat, Nainital, and Rudraprayag.

 

Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for the remaining districts, including Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar, urging residents to stay cautious and be prepared for moderate rainfall and possible weather-related disruptions

 

Earlier on Monday, Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarita Dobhal visited the landslide-affected areas along the Yamunotri National Highway to review the safety arrangements to tackle the situation.

 

"SP Uttarkashi Sarita Dobhal inspected various landslide zones on the Yamunotri National Highway and reviewed and assessed the safety management today, " posted Uttarkashi Police, Uttarakhand on X.

 

Officials said the Yamunotri National Highway was blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri as the parts of the road was washed out.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said the average rain in Tehri Garhwal was recorded at 79.2 mm on Sunday. Power supply was disrupted due to rains in Agrakhaal, Chamba, Jakhindhar, and Dughamandar areas and water supply was also affected in Chamba block.
