Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said on Friday no special relief package had yet been given for the recent disaster in Himachal Pradesh. He added that all rescue, relief and rehabilitation work was being managed with the state’s limited resources.
Speaking to reporters at Bhuntar Airport during his visit to assess the damage in the district, he appealed to the BJP national president and the seven BJP MPs from Himachal to push the Central Government for a dedicated relief package.
The Chief Minister informed that the state had already sent a proposal of Rs 3,000 crore for disaster rehabilitation to the World Bank and was waiting for its approval. He also criticised the Leader of Opposition, saying that instead of helping on the ground, they have restricted themselves to social media and political statements.
Sharing details of the state’s response, Sukhu said a Chinook helicopter of the Indian Air Force was used to rescue more than 3,500 tourists stranded during the Manimahesh Yatra in Chamba. He assured that all other stranded people would also be evacuated by this evening.
Later, Sukhu reached Kullu in a helicopter carrying relief material. He said ration and essential supplies were being airlifted to areas that were still cut off due to the disaster. From Kullu, the CM flew to Manali along with Manali MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur, Kullu Sadar MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Torul S Raveesh and Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan Gokulachandran.
