Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Thursday lauded the people of Kashmir for their courage and cooperation in handling the recent potential flood situation. He said the next 15 days would be crucial and appealed to people to follow weather advisories in letter and spirit.

He informed the water level in the Jhelum had receded as weather conditions across the Valley remained dry on Thursday. However, he urged residents to remain vigilant and follow the advisories, while noting that monitoring teams continue to stay on high alert.

While addressing reporters in Srinagar, he said, “I would like to congratulate the people for managing the situation with calm and resilience. All teams monitored the situation closely, but it was the citizens’ awareness and courage that have made the difference.”

He said the coming 10-15 days are critical for the region and sought full cooperation from the residents. “Residents must follow weather advisories and remain vigilant near the Jhelum and its tributaries. The next 40 days are important as the monsoon continues. With public support, our teams can handle any challenge,” he added.

He also praised the coordinated rescue and relief operations launched by the Army, police, SDRF, NDRF, and the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, noting that over 150 vulnerable spots were closely monitored, with no breaches reported in the past 48 hours.

The Divisional Commissioner reassured residents that the situation was under control and expressed confidence that continued cooperation would keep Kashmir safe during the monsoon season.
