Following violent protests by labourers over wages and overtime, the Dehradun district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS in Selaqui and SIDCUL industrial areas.

Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Krishna Kumar Mishra issued the orders on directions from District Magistrate Savin Bansal to maintain law and order.

Labourers at several industrial units had staged protests on Friday evening, demanding higher wages from management. The protests escalated as they blocked roads and reportedly threw stones. Police registered an FIR and detained several people.

The order bans carrying weapons such as lathis, sticks, swords, or any other harmful objects in the area. It also prohibits collecting or storing bricks, stones, or any materials that can be used for violence. No rallies, protests, or public meetings are allowed without prior permission.

The administration has also banned the use of loudspeakers in public places. Group gatherings of five or more people are not allowed in the notified areas. Processions involving buses, tractor trolleys, or other vehicles have also been restricted.

Officials said strict action will be taken against anyone damaging public property. The steps have been taken to ensure peace, safety, and order in the region. An official said any violation will be punished under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The orders will stay in force until further notice.

The administration has urged labour groups and industrial units to maintain peace and avoid further unrest.
