A retired Army Brigadier, VK Joshi, was shot dead while on a morning walk in Dehradun’s Rajpur police station area on Monday, officials said. The incident occurred near Tula Apartments in Johri village. The Brigadier died on the spot after being hit by a bullet fired by an unidentified person.
SP City Dehradun Pramod Kumar said in a video statement that the retired officer was walking in Johri village when he was struck by a bullet during a firing incident earlier in the day.
Officials at the scene said the firing reportedly began after an argument between people travelling in two separate vehicles. During the exchange of fire, a stray bullet hit the Brigadier as he was passing through the area.
An eyewitness said he noticed commotion during his morning walk and rushed to the spot. People accompanying the Brigadier told him that shots had been fired between occupants of two vehicles, and the officer had been hit.
Police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and have launched an investigation to identify those involved and determine the exact sequence of events.
