Director General School Education Kashmir GN Itoo on Friday ordered a change in school timings for all government and private schools across Kashmir from November 1.
According to the order, timings for schools falling in the Srinagar Municipal limits shall be from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
Schools located outside the jurisdiction of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation shall function from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
“It is ordered that the new school timing will be in effect for both government and recognised Private Schools in the Kashmir Division with effect from November 1," it reads.
Earlier, the Director of School Education, Jammu Zone, had announced that the new school timings for the schools within Jammu Municipal limits from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, effective from October 1, 2025, except for schools within the Jammu Municipal Corporation and surrounding urban areas, which will maintain the 9:00 am to 3:00 pm schedule.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of School Education has ordered strict compliance with the new timings, warning of penalties for any deviations.
Decisions are sometimes made after seeking suggestions from relevant stakeholders to ensure the changes are practical and beneficial for the community.
