The grieving parents of the medical student who was tragically raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have stated that they harbour no disappointment over not being able to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to West Bengal.
Having written to Shah on 22 October seeking an appointment, they expressed hope for a meeting with him at a later date.
"We understand that as Union Home Minister, he has enormous responsibilities. He must have been hard-pressed for time during his day-long visit,” the mother of the deceased medic said on Thursday.
The mother also criticised the newly-formed Junior Doctors Association (JDA), a parallel platform to the West Bengal Junior Doctors Forum.
She questioned its motives, noting, “What is the locus standi of this new association? Did they ever protest after our daughter’s death? Many of these association members are known to be part of the threat culture brigade.”
The agitating junior doctors have raised concerns about a “threat culture” in the healthcare sector, implicating certain medics, teachers, and officials in fostering this atmosphere.
Remembering their daughter, the mother shared poignant memories of Diwali, saying, “Our daughter used to decorate our home with lamps on Kali Puja.
After the fireworks, we would go for pandal-hopping and dine out. This year, our house is plunged into darkness. We pray to Goddess Kali for justice.”
