Amid an ongoing CID investigation into alleged irregularities in student admissions and sanitation contracts, Dr Rajkumar has resigned as Director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). The Jharkhand Health Department has accepted his resignation and appointed Dr Deependra Kumar Sinha as the institute's acting director until further orders.
An official notification regarding the administrative change was issued on Thursday.
The resignation comes at a time when the Criminal Investigation Department is conducting separate inquiries into alleged forged-document admissions to MBBS and BDS courses and suspected irregularities in sanitation service tenders at the state's premier government medical college and hospital.
On Wednesday, two CID teams visited the RIMS campus to gather evidence and review records related to the cases. While one team focused on the admission process of certain students, the other scrutinised documents connected to sanitation contracts awarded by the institution.
As part of the investigation, CID officials interacted with senior functionaries, including the Dean and Medical Superintendent, and collected copies of relevant files and records.
Investigators are examining allegations that some candidates secured admission without the mandatory verification of certificates by district authorities or the agencies that issued the documents. Sources said the verification process in several cases remained pending for months after admission.
The agency is also looking into how students whose credentials later came under suspicion continued their academic courses. Earlier, the institute had cancelled the admissions of one MBBS and one BDS student after official inquiries concluded that the caste certificates submitted by them were not genuine.
CID officials have reportedly taken custody of key documents and are continuing their investigation to establish whether procedural lapses or deliberate wrongdoing occurred.
Meanwhile, RIMS authorities have maintained that they are fully cooperating with the probe and are providing all information and records sought by the investigating agency.
