In a heart-wrenching incident, eight people, including five children, two women, and a police officer, lost their lives in a road accident on the Sinthan-Kokernag route in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

 

The tragic accident occurred when the vehicle’s driver lost control, causing it to skid off the road and plunge into a deep gorge.

 

Despite a swift response from emergency services, all eight victims were declared dead at the scene.

 

Sub-District Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, Suheel Ahmad Lone, confirmed the casualties. 

 

"A policeman, five children, and two women died in an accident near Arashan Daksum," Lone stated.

 

The ill-fated vehicle, bearing registration number JK03H-9017, was travelling from Madwa Kishtwar when it met with the accident.

 

The SDM provided further details, revealing, "Imtiyaz Ahmad, a policeman, along with his five children and two women, was on board when the accident occurred on the Kishtwar-Anantnag road at the Arashan spot."

 

Imtiyaz, the deceased policeman, was returning to his home in Madwa Kishtwar from Kishtwar, where he was stationed.

 

The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, prompting an immediate investigation by the authorities.

 

The accident site, near Aarshun Hut, is approximately 20 kilometres from Daksum, a popular tourist destination.

 

As news of the tragedy spread, rescue teams and officials rushed to the location to carry out rescue operations and recover the bodies.

 

A post-mortem examination is currently being conducted at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) to determine the precise cause of death.

 

The local authorities have registered a case to uncover the details surrounding the accident.
