Four members of a family lost their lives after the roof of an old rented house collapsed amid heavy rainfall and strong winds in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district, police said on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Gurunath Badigera (35), his wife Jyoti Badigera (28), and their two children, Kalamma Badigera (13) and Kirti Badigera (9). The tragic incident took place at Moratagi village in Alamela taluk of Vijayapura district, police officials said.
According to preliminary investigations, the family had temporarily shifted to the rented house as renovation work was being carried out at their own residence. The accident occurred late on Thursday night when intense rain accompanied by gusty winds caused the roof of the old structure to cave in.
