The death of Chief Engineer-cum-General Manager, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), Vimal Negi under mysterious circumstances has triggered a major controversy in the state with the opposition BJP today demanding a CBI probe into the incident, holding that the whole functioning of HPPCL was under scanner now.
The employees of the HPPCL also demanded a high-level fair probe into the matter, alleging undue pressure on Negi and the hostile environment in the Corporation, which, they said, all of them have been passing through over the last two years.
The HPPCL employees wrote a letter to the Chief Minister immediately after Negi's body was retrieved from Govind Sagar last evening, mentioning that until a thorough investigation is conducted and appropriate changes in the management structure are made, they are compelled to pause work as a mark of protest and solidarity.

Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, however, told the House during the budget session that the government is serious about the issue and would get it inquired. “An Additional Chief Secretary rank officer would inquire into the whole matter, once the post mortem is completed. His wife and family members had met me and they had earlier met Revenue minister from Kinnaur, Jagat Singh Negi also. We will bring the culprits to book,” he said.
Sukhu said Vimal Negi was missing since March 10 and his body, which was found near Govind Sagar lake last evening, was identified with the help of his license.
Revenue minister, Jagat Singh Negi, who represents Kinnaur, the home district of Vimal Negi, said Negi’s wife and the employees of the Corporation have talked about the pressure on him and others by the management. “His wife told me that he was not even being given leave for urgent matters and medical purposes,”he said. He said there must be some issue somewhere if the employees are also mentioning the same thing.
