Thieves stole approximately Rs 25 lakh from an ATM on Phagwara-Palahi road early Saturday morning. The robbers utilised a gas cutter to gain access to the machine and escaped with the cash.
The heat from the gas cutter also damaged some currency notes inside the ATM.
The authorities are working to determine the number of individuals involved in the heist.
Phagwara Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said that CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being reviewed to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The police are actively investigating the incident and scanning the footage to trace the robbers.
The ATM heist has raised concerns about the security of financial institutions in the area, and the authorities are taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
