The Right to Information Act stands as a “living expression of democracy” and a cornerstone of accountable governance, Arunachal Pradesh Governor c (Retd) said on Friday.

Addressing the Right to Information Week celebration 2025 at Itanagar, Parnaik pointed that the law bridges the gap between citizens and the state by “turning aspirations into action”.

“With awareness, participation and integrity, we can build a nation where progress is inclusive, governance is open, and every citizen is a proud partner in India's journey towards 2047,” he said, calling for a renewed commitment to transparency and citizen empowerment as India advances towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Parnaik commended the Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) for hosting the event and said such efforts strengthen democratic values. “These initiatives celebrate people's empowerment and public participation in governance, deepen awareness, strengthen accountability, and nurture the spirit of good governance in the state,” he remarked.

Reiterating that “an informed citizenry makes governments stronger and more responsive”, the Governor described the RTI Act as one of India’s most transformative laws, mandating transparency across all administrative levels.

Terming RTI a pillar of participatory democracy, Parnaik said it aligns with the vision of a self-reliant and empowered Viksit Bharat. “Built on the principles of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, RTI fosters trust, inclusion, and progress,” he added.

He urged the adoption of innovative measures to strengthen the law by integrating technology, awareness, and collaboration. “Regular training, timely disclosures, and efficient handling of applications will ensure RTI remains a living instrument of transparent and responsible governance, where citizens and authorities work together with mutual respect and purpose,” he emphasised.

On the occasion, Parnaik, along with state Law Minister Kento Jini, released the APIC’s annual report. Among those present were State Chief Information Commissioner Maj Gen Jarken Gamlin (Retd), Principal Secretary (Home) Kaling Tayeng, and State Information Commissioner Vijay Taram.
