A major uproar broke out in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly following remarks made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik, leading to a heated scuffle and the marshalling out of several legislators.

The chaos unfolded after Malik allegedly made controversial comments about Hindus, claiming that while they wear a 'tilak' on their forehead, they continue to commit sins.

The remarks drew sharp condemnation from members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly MLA Vikram Randhawa, who was present in the assembly during the incident. Randhawa strongly denounced Malik’s statements, accusing him of insulting the Hindu community.

He said, “Today, he has insulted Hindus; will he do anything he wants? We will protest this. He has insulted Hindus, saying they wear tilak and still commit sins, steal, and drink alcohol. We will show him what Hindus truly stand for.”

The situation further escalated when AAP MLA Malik got into a verbal altercation with PDP MLA Waheed Parra. During the exchange, Malik accused Parra of being a traitor and bringing mafia elements into the proceedings, raising concerns about unidentified individuals present outside the assembly. Malik said, “You have been a traitor... he has brought in the mafia. There are so many people outside. Who are these people?”

Speaking to reporters after the incident, Malik defended himself and expressed anger over the reaction he received in the house. He said, “He tells me I have no respect or manners. Will he teach me?”

Malik also claimed that he was physically attacked by BJP workers, further intensifying the controversy.

Meanwhile, Awami Itehad Party leader and MLA Salman Khursheed alleged that the National Conference-led government was intentionally creating disruptions with the aim of adjourning the day’s proceedings, suggesting a deliberate attempt to stall legislative business under the pretext of chaos.
