A Mumbai court has extended the police custody of the Bangladeshi man arrested for allegedly stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan during a robbery attempt at his Bandra home.
Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, aged 30, was produced before a magistrate’s court in Bandra on Friday after his previous remand ended.
The police sought an additional seven days of custody, arguing that further investigation into key aspects of the case was required. The court granted the plea, extending the accused’s custody until January 29.
Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested in neighbouring Thane city after allegedly entering India illegally last year.
He had changed his name to Vijay Das. He is accused of breaking into Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in the early hours of January 16, where he repeatedly stabbed the actor with a knife during a robbery attempt.
Khan, 54, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent two surgeries for injuries sustained in the attack, including one to his neck and near his spine. He was discharged from the hospital on January 21.
