Saini hits out at Rahul, calls him frustrated ‘prince’

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini intensified his attack on Rahul Gandhi, calling him the Congress “prince” who is frustrated by repeated defeats and now spreading a “false” agenda across the country, “first on the Constitution and now on the voter list”.

"Congress' defeat by a margin of 22,779 votes in eight seats in the Haryana Assembly elections (held in October 2024) is being used as an excuse for electoral irregularities," Saini said in a post shared on his social media handle.

Gandhi had recently pointed out that the difference between winning and losing for Congress in Haryana elections was just 22,779 votes in total. In the poll held last year, the BJP retained power by winning 48 out of 90 seats. The Congress won 37, the INLD two, and Independents three.

"If these 22,000 votes had gone to the BJP, we could have won at least 10 more seats. The BJP had to face defeat in seven seats by a thin margin of 12,592 votes, including Loharu, Adampur, Rohtak, Sadhaura, Panchkula, Fatehabad, and Thanesar," Saini said.

He accused Gandhi of repeatedly insulting the people’s mandate and urged him to focus on his “directionless, failed, and faction-ridden” party instead. Saini said the BJP government in Haryana ensures equal development in all areas, regardless of whether they are represented by a BJP or Congress MLA.

A day earlier, Saini had said the Congress leader keeps making “unnecessary” comments about India’s constitutional institutions.

According to Saini, Gandhi has spent two decades trying to establish himself in politics but failed, dragging the entire Congress down with him. "Rahul Gandhi keeps making unnecessary remarks on India's constitutional institutions on every issue; commenting on the Election Commission to save his political existence is inappropriate," he said.

He also criticised Gandhi for remarks against the Election Commission, calling them an attempt to protect his political existence. Saini’s latest comments came after Gandhi accused the BJP and the Election Commission of committing “huge criminal fraud” in elections, citing a Karnataka constituency analysis and calling it “a crime against the Constitution.”

Reacting to the claims, Saini said, "By repeatedly targeting Haryana, he (Gandhi) is making a failed attempt to cover up the laxity, failure, and factionalism of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee.” Referring to the Assembly polls, Saini said the people of Haryana responded to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and "rejected Congress to give the BJP a resounding majority to form the government for the third consecutive time".

Responding, Saini said Gandhi was targeting Haryana to hide the failures, negligence, and infighting within the Haryana Congress. He stressed that in the recent Assembly polls, the people of Haryana responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and gave the BJP a strong majority for a third consecutive term.
