Industrialist-turned-politician Sanjeev Arora has added another feather to his cap by winning the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket. Known for his extensive contributions to industry and philanthropic activities, Arora is all set to step into a more direct public role as MLA from his home turf Ludhiana.

Sanjeev Arora completed his graduation in commerce from SCD Government College, Ludhiana. Later, he took the reins of his family business, Ritesh Properties and Industries Limited (RPIL), expanding it into real estate, housing, and commercial projects.

Arora, 61, is a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist from Ludhiana. A commerce graduate from SCD Government College, he took the charge of his family business, Ritesh Properties and Industries Limited (RPIL), expanding it into real estate, housing, and commercial ventures. It was under his leadership that the company was rebranded into Hampton Sky Realty Limited and developed Hampton Business Park and Hampton Homes, creating a hub for multiple industries. The Hampton Sky Realty Limited (HSRL) is now listed on the BSE with a market capitalisation of Rs 900 crore.

For over three decades, Arora has led Ritesh Industries Ltd., and the company’s main focus is on exports to the US and also has an overseas office in Virginia. He is now the chairman and Managing Director of RPIL.

In 2018, he ventured into fashion retail with the launch of the women’s wear brand Femella. In 2019, he ventured into non-ferrous metal business with Teneron Limited, a company tied to Suzuki Motors’ Gujarat plant under the Make in India initiative.

After losing his mother to breast cancer, Mr Arora established the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust in 2005. The trust has been providing free treatment to cancer patients, and his father, who later succumbed to cancer, was also a strong inspiration behind this initiative.

In 2018, former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh honoured Arora with a state award for his humanitarian efforts. By then, his trust had helped treat over 100 cancer patients.

Apart from business and social work, Arora has held significant positions in public welfare institutions, he is the vice-president of the Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, was formally on the Apex Council of the Punjab Cricket Association, and also associated with the Ved Mandir Trust in Daresi.

Elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2022, Arora became one of AAP’s seven Upper House members from Punjab. Following his recent victory in the Ludhiana West bypoll, he will now resign from his Rajya Sabha seat to serve as an MLA. The seat had fallen vacant after the untimely death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.

Arora’s electoral victory is not just a political gain for AAP—it reflects his deep-rooted local connect, commitment to public service, and grassroots credibility. As he assumes his new legislative role, it is fair to expect that he will focus on better governance, industrial growth, and public welfare.
