Sarma advances power, investment ventures with Bhutan

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma concluded his four-day visit to Bhutan with a renewed commitment to strengthening ties between Assam, India, and Bhutan. He expressed gratitude to the Bhutanese monarchy and discussed economic cooperation and trade with Bhutan’s leaders.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Riniki Bhuyan Sharma meet His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema at the Golden Throne Room in Tashichhodzong, Thimphu on December 17.


Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that Assam plays a pivotal role in enhancing the relationship between India and Bhutan, as he concluded his four-day visit to the neighbouring country on Thursday.

 

Sarma, who was accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him during the visit.

 

"As Riniki and I conclude our unforgettable visit to Bhutan, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and the wonderful people of Bhutan for their warmth and generosity," Sarma wrote.

 

"We return home with cherished memories, invaluable learnings and a renewed commitment to ensuring that Assam plays a pivotal role in strengthening the deep bond between Bharat and Bhutan," he added.

 

 

Sarma was in Bhutan at the invitation of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, to attend the country's National Day celebrations on Tuesday.

 

CM Sarma, during his visit to Thimphu, held discussions with key stakeholders to foster regional growth.

 

He met Dr Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, to explore economic, industrial, and transportation linkages between GMC and Assam.

 

Sarma also discussed renewable energy solutions with Druk Green Power Corporation and urged Druk Holdings and Investment to explore investment opportunities in Assam at the upcoming #AdvantageAssam summit.

 

 

 

The Assam CM also held meetings with Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and his wife, Tashi Doma. Talks focused on areas of mutual interest and the potential to strengthen trade relations between Assam and Bhutan.

 

 

Sarma also visited Bhutan’s Indian embassy, the Simtokha Dzong, a prominent spiritual and cultural centre, and participated in a promotional event for the upcoming Advantage Assam investment summit, which is scheduled for February.

 

The CM was bid farewell at the airport by Bhutan's Foreign Minister D N Dhungyel as his visit came to a close.
