Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday disbursed the first instalment of Rs 75,000 each to over 25,000 young entrepreneurs under the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan (CMAAA) initiative.
The funds were distributed during a ceremony at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, marking the start of a larger drive aimed at reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance among the state’s youth.
The CMAAA scheme is designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs through financial aid, training, and market access.
Chief Minister Sarma stated, “Through this scheme, we are committed to empowering Assam’s youth to become self-reliant by providing financial assistance, training, and market access.”
A total of 25,064 young entrepreneurs with general qualifications received the first tranche of Rs 75,000 each, while another 174 youths with professional degrees in fields such as medicine and engineering were also granted the same amount.
The next phase involves a training programme in November, following which the selected individuals will receive a second instalment of Rs 25,000.
Upon successful assessment of their businesses, the youths in the general category will be awarded an additional Rs 1 lakh, while those with professional degrees will receive Rs 4 lakh.
The second phase of the Atmanirbhar Assam initiative will soon be launched, with plans to provide financial aid to at least 75,000 more youths.
The overall programme aims to disburse a total of Rs 510 crore across various sectors including agriculture, fisheries, and self-employment.
