The newly-appointed Keralam Chief Minister, VD Satheesan, met top Congress leaders on Saturday, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, during his first official visit to Delhi since assuming office.
During the visit, Satheesan also held talks with AICC General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Party sources indicated that the Chief Minister, who arrived in the national capital late on Friday night, used the opportunity to thank the Congress high command for its staunch support throughout the recent Assembly election campaign.
According to insiders, the discussions with senior leadership centred largely on organisational matters and the governance strategy for the newly formed UDF administration in Keralam. The high-level meetings coincide with ongoing internal deliberations within the Congress party regarding the appointment of a new Keralam Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.
While there are indications that the Chief Minister may also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the coming week, official confirmation of such a meeting is yet to be announced.
Earlier, Satheesan received an enthusiastic reception from Congress workers and supporters upon his arrival in Delhi, with a large crowd gathering at Keralam House late into the night to welcome him. His visit follows the recent Assembly elections, which saw the Congress-led UDF unseat the LDF to return to power in Keralam after a ten-year hiatus.
