In the aftermath of the devastating floods in Punjab, Satluj river has changed its course near Sasrali village of Ludhiana, eroding 38 acres of farmland.
Realising the gravity of the situation, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain has written to the Army, requesting urgent assistance from its engineering wing to halt the river’s advance.
“The changing course of the Satluj near Sasrali is rapidly eroding fertile land. While there is no immediate threat to lives, farmers are losing their valuable land,” said Jain.
He said the administration has deployed all available resources to contain the erosion, but warned that the situation requires immediate technical intervention.
